entertain | a child for hours

My sister and brother-in-law (and their two precious boys) are also down the shore with us this week.  They are two and a half and just over 8 months old.  The 2 year old is so incredibly rambunctious, but is somehow also terrified of the water.  Yesterday, the 8 month old literally slept for 4 hours and then sat on a blanket smiling for another 4 hours.  🙂  They’re precious!!
I decided to try out a new distraction for the 2 year old: Give him a length of ribbon and let him go wild. It’s like the kid-friendly kite.

As the pictures attest, he looved playing with his new toy.  When he was done flying the ribbon, he wrapped it around his shoulders and said “look Aunt Becca, it’s like a backpack.”  My heart melted a little.  🙂

So, next time you’re at the beach, remember to bring some pretty ribbon.  It takes up almost no room and will provide hours of entertainment!

till tomorrow,

Rebecca

P.S. Just keep an eye on your kids if you let them play with long ribbons…I’d hate for something bad to happen.  :-/

This is a great idea! And makes for pretty cute pictures! When we were little I remember one day is was SOO windy that we threw a plastic bag outside (like from the grocery) and had the best time chasing it around! Pretty ridiculous, but for a 6 year old it was a blast 🙂

  2. Love that. It's kinda like when you buy a kid a new easy bake oven and all they are interested is the box it came in…kids are so easy to please that way!

  3. awwww the simple things that can entertain a little one. He is such a cutie!!

I really really love how kids can be entertained to no end by such simple things 🙂 They're kind of my perfect role models because of that! 😉

ive noticed that children end up liking the most simplest of things. They open an expensive toy, and want to play with the wrapping. haha

  9. They're really not hard to please. It's just the energy it takes!

  10. Oh, must get a ribbon for our trip to the beach, awesome!! And I can only hope & dream for a 4-hour nap!

Love this idea and so did he! So much fun. He's so incredibly adorable 😉

  12. Kristin says:

I'm totally going to try that out with my little dude!

Hmmm, Christina is probably a little biased about that boy (but he is very adorable!)
