a lovely gift | treasures from Africa

My boyfriend’s family spent nearly 17 years in Niger as missionaries.  His mom recently gave me a few precious gifts she’s had since their time in Africa.  Her house is filled with African accents and I’ve always admired them, so when she gave these to me last month, I was beyond thrilled!!
I’ve always liked using African-inspired touches in home decor, and have mentioned Africa a few times here (I styled an African safari photo shoot and party and gave my boyfriend a sweet vintage map of Africa for Valentines day).  Is there a certain country (or continent) you’re drawn to when decorating?
Look at that chunky leather clasp!

And the embroidered detail on the front.  Mmmm.  I’ll have to put together a style post using this purse!

Thanks for such a lovely gift, Mrs. G; I’ll always treasure these!

till tomorrow,

P.S. These were gifts that really meant a lot to me, like the deer antlers from my friend Wendy.  What have some of your favorite gifts been?

  2. Cute!! I have a soft spot for Africa because I went to Kenya in 2006. It's been so long, but I think of it often and I want to go back. How nice of your bf's mom!! xo

  3. Gloria says:

What a beautiful gift – the detailing is gorgeous!

  4. Chelsea says:

What a special gift! I was just researching the china my mom gave me that belonged to my great-grandmother. It is these types of beloved pieces that are wonderful to receive! xo

These are awesome gifts! Some of my favorite things have sentimental value/significance. Those are always the best!

I hope your first day at your full-time job went well!

  7. That purse is SO lovely. How kind of her! My friend went to Kenya and worked in an orphanage this past summer and she brought me back some brass earrings with the image of an elephant, which I wore to work today! I love anything African as well. As for a country I'm drawn to when I'm decorating – I would say Morocco. I'm obsessed with the intense colors and bohemian vibe of everything not quite matching. xoxo, Shelby
