I was in Northern Virginia, DC and West Virginia this past week and weekend, and picked up some new treasures at a few of my favorite places to shop! How I miss those VA shops!
Here’s the breakdown of what I purchased in these pictures and why I purchased it:
– Wedgwood saucers: three for $3; they are authentic, and are from the early 1900s; great props
– Ceramic mug: 25 cents; great for drinking my morning cup o jo, and a terrific, textured prop
– Assorted silver plated flatware: part of a $5 basket sale (fill a basket for $5); added to my collection of silver plated flatware; I have full service (assorted patterns) for about 20
– Teak wood cheese plate with glass dome: $2; I see these at almost every thrift shop, but the base was teak wood and in very good condition – no scratches; great for serving cheese or using as a prop
– Espresso maker: $3; I’ve been searching for one, and finally found it. Now I can make espresso! And now all I need is a Chemex and a Siphon and I’ll be good to go!
– Solid brass candlesticks: $1 each; great as a centerpiece and a prop
For those of you who are local, here are the locations I visited last week:
Blue Ridge Hospice Thrift Store

Purcellville, VA 20132
(540) 751-1680
Goodwill in Sterling
22405 Enterprise Street
Sterling, VA 20164

Blossom & Bloom

Don’t give up or get discouraged if you leave a thrift store empty-handed. In fact, I feel powerful when I do leave with nothing – it means I didn’t settle for something less than perfect or that I didn’t love. If you consistently (at least once a week, if possible) visit a few thrift shops, you will happen upon unexpected and unique treasures!
Happy Tuesday!
till tomorrow,
Rebecca

Will you loan me those candlesticks for my wedding someday? Gorgeous! =) Also so jealous of the cheese plate + dome, never seen one that cheap!
DEAL! If you let me set them up for you! 😉 I have tons more, too!
Thank you for sharing, Rebecca! 🙂
$3 for the espresso pot!!! what a nice find.
I know…..couldn't pass it up!
I try and go in with something broad that I'm looking for, so I don't get overwhelmed. I've been looking for a well crafted wooden box forever and I found the perfect one the other day. $3! someone even tried to lift it from my basket! ha.
YES, I do that too….plus, once you know your style, it's easy to pass over the other garbage 😉 OMG, I would have punched them. Ok, not really…but I would have been upset.
I love all three of those shops! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Love this! Can't wait to hit up some of those places when I'm in NOVA this summer!
i have a chemex and i LOVE it. im not a big coffee drinker, but when i have it i want it to be an awesome cup of drip coffee. plus the chemex alone is just beautiful to look at!
This is such terrific advice!
Sounds like you found some awesome things! Thanks for giving the info of the thrift stores you visited!
You were right near my house when you came to Blue Ridge! I would go in but I've always had a thing about hospice shops…
My Chemex was $4.50 at a thrift shop in Sterling. Best day ever, and by far my most amazing thrift find!
Wonderful finds Rebecca! I shopped at my favorite local spot today and was blown away by my luck!! A set of 12 gorgeous emerald green glasses (will be sharing more on that on the blog later this week), a feather trimmed cloche hat, a vintage Chanel box, and the most incredible ostrich feather cape! That last one was for my mother-in-law who ballroom dances and loves a good costume party. At $4, I couldn't pass it up!
You are an AMAZING thrifter. I wish Thrifting 101 was a real class… I would take the crap out of it. As well as any others in its sequence.. 102, 103… OH boy I'm getting very excited now… 🙂
xxx,
Alexandra
I love that tip about feeling powerful when you leave empty handed! I can feel SO discouraged and annoyed when I don't find anything, but you are so right! No need to settle on a bunch of junk:)
You were in my neck of the woods!!! I love all of the spots you visited…part of my regular rotation..
