thoughts | on gratitude

Gratitude is “the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.” Lately, I’ve been trying to be more intentional about my gratitude. Taking a minute and writing out that thank you note. Picking up a small “thank you” gift. Even just picking up the phone and saying “thank you.”

It’s so easy to be “thankful” while never expressing such and letting someone know how much you appreciate them or what they’ve done for or given you. At times in my life, I’ve had lists of people I needed to thank for one thing or another, but the list would get lost, and I’d forget. Setting aside that time to think of others and show them you’ve been thinking of them is an incredible blessing.

With that said, the above items make a simple way to say thank you to the girls I stay with when I visit VA/DC. A handmade [and thrifted, of course] sugar and creamer set, some caramels (for melting & dipping apples), and a few small white pumpkins. I hope the girls sit down for an Autumn afternoon tea as a result of this little gift. It would make me smile.

A thank you doesn’t have to be expensive and it doesn’t have to be complicated. What’s your favorite way to say “thank you”?

Have a lovely weekend, friends!
Rebecca

P.S. Did you see my first post on the ALT Summit Blog about staying creative???!!! So excited to be writing for ALT!

So true. I know I love receiving letters and packaging so I try to stay on top of distributing them to friends and family every month. AND in turn they are more inclined to return the favor. It's kind of like I have 15 pen pals 😉

  2. I don't think you can beat a little handwritten note!

  3. Hilary says:

Lovely reminder, Rebecca! I try go through my list of things I'm thankfully for in a moment of quiet each day but it doesn't always happen. Vocalizing those feelings of gratitude is equally important and something I just don't do enough of. Maybe I will this weekend!

And congrats on the Alt post!! I especially appreciated the second point you made. Such a difficult balance to strike.

unless it's ingrained into you I think it's easy to slip someone's mind and forget to thank. when i hit my mid 20s i realised that this is just something that needs to be done. cards are they normal but something like this, to bake a cake or other small handmade gestures are great

  7. Nicole says:

what a fantastic idea to be creative about leaving or giving a small gift in thanks. its so easy to leave something sweet like a few pieces of candy, and really drives the point home!

  8. I've been really grateful for my friends and parents lately, and I've been wracking my brain about how to say thanks–maybe I should stop worrying so much about how and just do!

It would've been so lovely to receive a thank you gift like this!
