florals 01 // spring blooms

I am just thrilled to be introducing the first regular guest contributors to A Daily Something,
Lauren and Rachel from Sweet Root Village (that’s right, the same geniuses behind the florals in my pregnancy announcement). Each month, we’ll be teaming up to make all things floral more accessible to you. I wanted to learn more about colors, making my own arrangements, seasonal flowers, where to find the best blooms, and simply gain more experience, and then share this all with you. This is where these ladies graciously agreed to help out. From simple how-tos, to trips to the local farmer’s market, Lauren and Rachel will be teaching us floral beauty and knowledge, and then we’ll help you bring it all together and style florals in your home.

Today’s how-to is a perfect pick-you-up, whether you want to add a springtime arrangement to your kitchen table during morning tea time, or for your guests to feel cheerful as they walk through your doors and see bright florals on the entryway table.

To achieve this look, Lauren and Rachel offer these simple steps:

1 //  Collect materials: flowers from local farmer’s market or farms, grocers, or even your backyard. Floral frog, vase or container, and a non-serrated knife. We used an assortment of spring blooms: ranunculus, cherry blossom, jasmine vine, clematis, and helleborus.
2 // Set up vase or container with floral frog and fill with room temperature water.
3 // Using the knife, carefully cut the stems of flowers at an angle to desired length and place into floral frog. Consider the height and width you are hoping to achieve.
4 // Gradually build your arrangement to desired look and feel, adding stems on alternating sides and filling in greens between flowers. Turn and examine your work as you go.
5 // When you have achieved desired size, place in your home. Water daily.
