Kinfolk Natural Decor Workshop Part II

Today I’m sharing a second set of photos (and a video!!!) from last month’s Kinfolk workshop at The Loft at 600 F, co-hosted by Sweet Root Village and myself. These photos are mainly from our mealtime, which was a simple lunch of soups, salad, and bread. I needed to prepare food that would transport easily (I had an hour drive into DC) and heat up simply (there is no kitchen space at the loft, just a food prep area and a small sink/refrigerator). I decided on soup (made the day before), heated in crock pots. Lots of crock pots. My mom helped with the prep by making a gigantic pot of my favorite butternut squash soup. I also made a large pot of potato/sausage/kale soup, and served it alongside warm bread (I brought our toaster oven!) with butter, and a wintry salad. We also put out lots and lots of Gordy’s Pickles!

For dessert, I made an assortment of cakes, muffins, and cookies. I also served lots of fresh fruit and dark chocolate. For drinks, I had warm cider, an assortment of teas, and coffee. Planning out the menu and preparing the food has become a favorite aspect of these workshops. I love the challenge of cooking and baking for a large crowd (Joe and I usually live off the leftovers for a few days), transporting the food, and then setting everything up on site. Maybe one of these days I’ll host a workshop/dinner at my own home where I can simply prepare and serve the food!

I’ve said it again and again….Over the past year, I have been incredibly blessed to become good friends with many of the people who attended these Kinfolk workshops. One of these friends, Don, put together this lovely video of our time together in December. Don’s since moved out to Seattle for an exciting new job, and I can’t wait to see what he does out there! He’ll be back in the spring to film a video project I’m working on with Joy from Mornings Like These!

Thank you, Don, for taking the time to put together this stunning video! And thank you to all our partners who made the workshop possible!
