A few weeks ago in early May, my dear friends at Sweet Root Village and I co-hosted a DIY macrame plant hanger workshop and flower pop-up shop. The event filled up FAST and was a blast. It’s always fun creating and partying with old and new friends! The Georgetown Anthro team was so helpful (aaaand we may already be dreaming up another workshop for the near future…), and I really really enjoyed teaching the workshop. I taught a very basic macrame hanger, and my favorite part was watching how each attendee interpreted the hanger for themselves and expressed their own creativity. Anthro gave everyone beautiful galvanized metal planters, which we filled with asparagus ferns and other pretty greens from Petals and Hedges. Enjoy these lovely photos of our event, taken by Rachel at Sweet Root Village.

Lots has been going on over here – sorry for the radio silence! We’ve been traveling quite a big the past few weeks, and several weeks ago, I took on a pretty exciting project which has been taking up lots of time and energy (I’ll be sharing more soon!!!). I have tons to share with you guys over the next few months, though, and promise to try my best to keep this little blog updated more often! My little Zoe’s going to be ONE year old next week. I’m still debating whether or not to throw her a party. Is the first birthday party worth it? Half of me wants to go ALL OUT and throw her a Robin Hood party (she adores the 1970s Disney version), but the other half of me doesn’t think it’ll be worth it, and I’m lazy. Any advice from parents who’ve been there, done that?

Other updates….we’ve been organizing a bunch and are preparing for a yard sale! If you’re in the Northern VA area, lookout for a date announcement and more info soon! I promise I’ll be selling some of my favorite things, not just junk. Trying my best to not be on the next season of hoarders.

ALSO! Joy from Mornings Like These and I have a little something up our sleeves for our Northern VA/DC/etc pals. Announcement coming this MONDAY!

Till next time!

  1. Woohoo! Such a fun event and excited to see all the things in store!!

I debated throwing a party for Mia also. And I'm debating her second birthday. And I'm debating a baby shower for Jude. I am too lazy to do something all out and awesome. Argh.

  2. ooooo, can't wait to hear about this NOVA announcement. Lovely photos!

  3. Alicia says:

How do I get in the know about these wonderful events you're involved in? Although I, too, am lazy, and DC is usually too much of a hike for me, but just in case you ever do an event at the Reston or Tyson's Anthro, I want to make sure I know about it! And also yayyyy for a NoVA announcement!

  4. I don't remember my first birthday party at all. My only association with it is a story… My mom was handing out cake to everyone, but she forgot to give me a piece! As she was standing with a piece in her hand and me on her hip, I finally decided that I wasn't going to wait any longer and dug right in!

As far as when to have a birthday party, one idea is to have a party every few years (1, 5, 10, 16, 18) or so, for the "big" ages. We often have family gatherings for our birthdays. Friend parties vary based on which one of us it is. I had a big party for my 15th birthday (and am hoping to have another one this year for my 18th), while my brothers have had smaller parties for the past few years. My brother Tristan loves biking, so he and a few friends will go biking and then go out to lunch or come back to our house for food and cake. 🙂 So I don't have any definitive advice (and I'm not a parent xDD), but those are some ideas. And Zoe is so adorable. 🙂

  5. This place is gorgeous. It has very high ceilings and huge windows offering a tremendous view of the city. The food was also good, on par with normal function type dining.
