Late Summer Front Porch Refresh

At about this time every summer, I start to lament the fact that the summer months have flown by, and I pretty much give in to the inevitable, rapidly approaching autumn. I always give up on my plants & stop watering them, I allow my front porch to get dusty, and let the AW fashion lines get the best of me. This year, I was inspired to try to use our porch as much as possible, throughout these last summer weeks. I’m thrilled to be hosting a late summer front porch potluck this week, so I just gave our porch a little refresh.

I’ve really been trying to make my black thumb less black & more green. My nana and mom work wonders on their outdoor gardens and house plants, and I’ve been working diligently this year to give my plants adequate sunshine, water, and light. But recently, Joe reminded me that that plants also need nutrients…all summer long, and especially during these hot summer months! Duh! It’s like Mrs. Alampi’s 6th grade science class all over again…but something I forget all the time. My poor container plants have even less access to nutrients because the roots are confined. Thankfully, Miracle-Gro came to the rescue, offering to partner with me and supply me with their Miracle-Gro LiquaFeed Universal Feeder (that name is super long, so I think I’ll just call it MGLFUF) and a summer’s worth of All Purpose Plant Food!

Every spring, I invest a ton of time and effort on our garden and new potted plants, so I really want to enjoy these beauties for as long as possible. The MGLFUF is super easy to use, and it completely takes care of giving your plants the proper amount of food (rather than you having to manually mix it from a concentrate). I was pretty amazed at how well our plants were doing after only 1 1/2 weeks of the plant food. Since I’m the queen of forgetfulness, I’ve been drinking my morning cup of coffee on the porch, and to remind myself to feed & water the plants, I’ve been using my pretty flowering mug every morning. A cute & beautiful way to remember that plants need water & food to flower & stay green!

For the front porch refresh, along with giving my plants proper nutrients and being careful to water them daily and feed them weekly, I swept & scrubbed the concrete floor (next spring the porch needs a new coat of paint), and brought out some new rugs and pillows. It’s amazing how clean & fresh the porch feels with thriving plants and some exciting new textiles! Now that the floor is decently clean & I put down a few rugs, the girls have been having so much fun playing together on the porch. We’re trying to cherish what we have presently rather than being disappointed about losing it, or looking forward to what’s not yet here.

Once I’ve watered my plants, I feed them with Miracle-Gro® LiquaFeed® Universal Feeder. It’s a great tool to help you reach your gardening goals by providing the essential nutrients your plants need to thrive all season long.

I loved your porch! Those plant pots are lovely. Where they are from? I love the rustic and vintage, but I can´t find many things. Your plant´s table is perfect for all my babies plants haha! Lovely blog!

Hi Yani! Thanks so much for stopping by and for your kind words 🙂 Unfortunately, most of my pots and planters are vintage. But the good news is the darker grey pots are from IKEA! <3 Happy planter-hunting!
