A Daily House to Home | Spring Bedroom Refresh

We’ve been living in our Virginia farmhouse for a little over 2 years now, and it’s been such a joy turning this house into our home. Last July, we turned our bedroom into a relaxing haven! Despite my desperate attempts over the past several months, our bedroom inevitably became the home to everything else in our home that didn’t have a home. Anyone else with a small house have this problem? I’m constantly hiding things away – things I think I need at my fingertips but don’t want to display downstairs (like boxes of diapers, extra blankets, paperwork, old magazines, etc.) – in our room. And if I fall behind on the laundry folding (as you may have seen on snapchat), a mountain of laundry appears every once in a while, too.

This time of year always inspires me to clean, organize, and start fresh! I’ve been going through all the rooms in our house and purging. It feels so good! For our master bedroom, I focused on a few simple measures to make the room feel new & inspiring.

This was a big one for me…I’ve been eyeing this linen bedding for a while, and really wanted to try it out! I partnered with Smart Bedding for this bedroom refresh, and cannot be more excited to share with you about our new linen bedding. It’s perfect (no joke). At first, Joe was skeptical of using linen bedding, but he’s been converted (and was after our first night)! Smart Bedding has designed the most beautiful, functional, and comfortable bedding. The bedding is 100% French linen, and incredibly soft. And each time we wash the bedding, it gets softer. The top sheet is cut to almost the same size as the duvet cover, and it actually snaps to the duvet cover. You never again have to 1. tuck in your top sheet or 2. fish your top sheet out from under the duvet at the foot of the bed. It’s brilliant, and works! Each morning, I simply fluff the duvet (and attached sheet) and place the pillows on our bed. We chose Rosewood, but all of their color selections are gorgeous!

My mom visited last week, and helped me with this one. We emptied my room of all the stuff that had accumulated (but made sure to either toss, donate, or store away in attic…nothing got temporarily placed somewhere it didn’t belong). We stripped the beds, washed the woodwork & windows, put the curtains through the wash, vacuumed, dusted, etc. My room felt so FRESH after this emptying & cleansing. If you feel overwhelmed doing this yourself, or have little kids who don’t let you get any laundry folded, ask someone for help! Or trade kids with a friend so you each have time to deep clean a bit this spring!

Bring in an essential oil diffuser or a new candle. Open the windows. Let air circulate. I chose a fresh scent from my favorite local Purcellville-based candle company, Sydney Hale Co.

There’s nothing like little bits of nature to make a room bright and cheerful. Right now, there are blooming branches everywhere around Northern VA. If you don’t have access to forage, pick up a bunch of tulips or ranunculus from the grocer. Or even add some houseplants to your bedroom. Houseplants actually work really well to purify the air in your home (we have aloe, snake plants, and peace lilies).

A refresh doesn’t need to be costly or time consuming. No one wants to spent time in a messy room; I simply wanted to make our room a place I wanted to read at night, play with my girls, and maybe even enjoy a breakfast in bed. Hope you’re inspired to go refresh the rooms in your home with these simple tips! Nothing here is mind-blowing, but I was so blessed by these simple steps (and hope you are too)! It’s important to slow down & take the time to make our homes more organized & enjoyable.

Thanks so much to Paula Bartosiewicz for these stunning photos.
