After each event I host, I’m usually delivered several hundred photos from my photographers. After lots and lots of painstaking sorting and comparing and shuffling, I typically share about 20 photos in a blog post. Sometimes I’ll break a dinner or gathering up into two (or three) posts…and that’s usually because there are just so many beautiful photos to share, and I don’t want to overwhelm everyone with one huge blog post. I try to remember to look back at events a few months (or even years) afterwards….and to keep sharing what was created by such wonderful teams!

These photos I’m sharing today are from a Mother’s Day brunch I co-hosted three years ago at my friend Jennifer’s home. We invited a handful of our girlfriends…some were moms of little ones, some were expecting, some were moms to grown women…a beautiful group! It was a simple brunch: a few of the women contributed to the meal, and we passed out potted herbs as a favor. I used mismatched neutral plates, and ripped up some canvas painter’s drop cloth for the table runners. And apparently I loved burlap (was it only three years ago?)… Lauren & Rachel from Sweet Root Village put together the stunning florals and took the photos.

It’s so special looking back at this time together (before most of us had children!)… We were all separated (for many reasons) from our mothers that year…busy putting down our roots away from our childhood homes, and we weren’t going to be able to spend Mother’s Day with our moms. So I decided to host this little brunch to celebrate our mamas, as nurturers, women, and friends. My favorite time was after we shared our meal and gathered in the living room to talk about our moms. We shared favorite memories, advice, lessons; we laughed and even cried together, and just connected with each other over our similar (and not so similar) experiences. It was beautiful!

I hope you are encouraged to honor your mother this week!
