Our DC Staycation

It was so fun to spend some time in DC; we live so close, but don’t usually take the time to get to know our city!

Things kicked off on Thursday evening with the global #DayofDiscovery event. Nearly 170 Renaissance Hotels around the world celebrated simultaneously. Centered around the theme of discovery, three guest elevators at Renaissance Dupont Circle were filled with local treasures to SIP, SAVOR, and SEE. My dear friend Joy joined me for the evening, and we discovered together!

Cotton & Reed Distillery served lemon dijonatu and grape ape rum cocktail tastings in one elevator, local musician Frank Kuhns serenaded guests in the next, and Wow Boa served up teriyaki chicken hot Asian buns in the third elevator. I had never experienced interactive elevator rides before, so it was a treat! They also served up complimentary summertime punch tastings in the living room as part of their Bar Ritual, which happens every evening at 5pm to kick off and celebrate making time for the #5to9 and discovering the world of local art, music, and food. Every Wednesday, Renaissance Dupont Circle presents Live in the Living Room featuring acoustical sets from local undiscovered bands.

We explored around DC a lot and did some typical-touristy things (visiting monuments and the National Zoo), and ate at a couple yummy restaurants. But we really enjoyed our down time at the hotel. I loved the welcoming living room and the eclectic collection of pillows decorating the couches (and the nearby Illy Caffe). The computers available for guest use were super helpful, too! And the Illy espresso machine (in our room) and I quickly got acquainted. I think I need an espresso maker now.

Thanks so much to The Renaissance Washington DC Dupont Circle Hotel for this opportunity to discovery our city, and thank you for supporting the sponsors that enable us to continue producing content!
