As a [mostly] work from home mom to an incredibly busy 3 year old and a not-so-busy 19 month old, almost every day looks different for us! I try to devote 2 days per week to work. The girls go to Nana’s house one of those days, and my sweet mother’s helper comes over on the other day. The other 3 days, I try to devote to being a mom full time and being present with my girls. I schedule play dates and try not to do work while they’re awake. But, inevitably, work does come up on those days. And as a blogger, it’s important to stay up-to-date on what’s happing in the blogosphere, to [somewhat] keep up on social media, and respond to important emails. So I’m super thankful for my day-to-day essentials that help me work more efficiently at home!

First, coffee. All day every day. Sometimes by the time lunch rolls around, I realize all I’ve had so far is 3 cups of coffee. It keeps me going. Thanks, Embassy Coffee Roasters. 🙂

Also essential for my at-home workday: books, magazines, and notebooks. I don’t always have time to sit down and find inspiration during my jam-packed designated workdays. So, I’ll frequently sit with the girls for quite/reading time. They each get a stack of books, and I get some books (I’m usually reading a few at a time…currently on my bedside table: Reclaiming Conversation, In Praise of Slowness, and Simple Matters) or magazines or just my favorite notebook and pencil. I’ll read, take notes, write lists. Mostly a million lists. Lists also keep me going.

Since partnering with Intel, my new Dell Inspiron 3000 2in1 touchscreen laptop (currently $499.99!) is quickly becoming an essential to my workday. Sometimes we’ll briefly sit on the couch after breakfast for a few quiet minutes. It processes pretty fast, so waking it up just to use it for a few minutes isn’t a hassle. The girls might read or snuggle or just look over my shoulder. I’ll catch up on emails or work on images for a bit. Zoe especially loves watching me on Pinterest, and will try to repin her favorite photos on Pinterest with the touchscreen and it’s adorable! The 11.6″ touchscreen display makes it really conductive to browsing photos, and I love seamlessly changing from the PC to the tablet.

My last essential is comfy clothes! I find that I work at home better and more efficiently when I actually get dressed (ha)! Has to be clothes that are moveable, but also make me feel like a productive human, like this Elizabeth Suzann tank in ivory raw silk and comfy denim shorts.

I’m so thankful for the freedom to work from home and be with my girls, even if that sometimes looks like the three of us snuggling on the couch with computer on my lap. We definitely prioritize time away from our technology, but when we use it, it’s nice to have crisp picture, speed, and a fun touchscreen!
