Life With Littles | Pumpkin Picking

This past weekend, we all went pumpkin picking at a favorite local pick-your-own farm, Wegmeyer Farm. They grow over 50 varieties of pumpkins, and we had such a wonderful time! I’m so thankful for the abundance of local, family-owned farms in Northern Virginia; they provide such a wonderful experience for our children year round! While I’m trying hard not to look forward to Christmas TOO much, I cannot WAIT to pick out our tree at Snickers Gap Tree Farm in 24 days. We’re going to be cutting down our Christmas tree in just over 3 weeks! Unbelievable how fast time flies!

What I love most about all the farms near our home – besides just the opportunity to start traditions and make memories as a family – is how they teach our children about where our produce, flowers, meat, etc. come from! I think it’s crucial for kids to be involved and know about the process (one of the reasons we keep a small garden) of where food comes from. It teaches them an appreciation for farm work, for the seasons, for limited access to seasonal produce. I want them to know – as much as they can from visiting farms and keeping a garden – how much work goes into farming, and how much better local, slow food actually is! So thank you, Northern Virginia farmers, for everything you do! 🙂 We can’t wait for your fresh, sun-warmed strawberries come Spring!

Enjoy these photos from our fun day picking pumpkins, and happy Wednesday!
