Introducing Our New Intern and Weekend Links: 1

Happy Friday, folks! Today, I’m so very excited to be introducing my new intern, Adriana, and sharing my first ever edition of WEEKEND LINKS (at the bottom of this post)! Adriana has been working with me for about one month now, and I’ve been so blessed by her fun personality! There are two exciting aspects to bringing people onto your team. 1) You have someone to run ideas by and brainstorm with. There’s so much joy to be found in companionship! AND 2) It means you are growing and need extra help! Growth is exciting and scary and sometimes the thought of it paralyzes me. Bringing Adriana onto the ADS team has been SO good for growth and change and I’m just so excited!

Adriana has been helping with a lot of behind-the-scenes projects: recipe indexing and cataloging, optimizing our content for Pinterest, designing our first [in recent years] free printable (grab them here: MODERN ILLUSTRATED HERB PRINTS), and a bunch of other tasks! She has yet to even come to my home since we’ve had chickenpox since her start date, but we’re SO LOOKING FORWARD to March, and spring, and starting to actually produce content together!

Adriana is a local college freshman (from my alma mater)! I’ve asked Adriana a few fun questions, so you all can get to know her a bit! She has been and will be helping with so much around here, and I think it’s so important for you to put a [beautiful] face to her name! So without further ado, meet Adriana!

Name: Adriana Gail Von Helms
Hometown: I’m from Orange County, California–the place where it’s always sunny, people have never seen snow, and the beach is a mere few minutes away.
College Major: I’m majoring in Journalism but hoping to somehow incorporate a bit of art and marketing in there as well.
Dreams Post Grad: I think my first response would be to travel. Ultimately, I would like to own some sort of creative business, but why not see Europe first! Top on my list is Germany during Christmas time. Then maybe Italy and Scotland again?
Hobbies: My hobbies include watercolor, coffeeshops, and hiking. If someone could somehow manage to get me a cup of coffee to drink WHILE I was painting a picture and ON a hike…you’d definitely receive high marks as a friend!
Favorite Place to Shop for Clothes: Madewell is my top place to shop–the clothes, vibe, and even atmosphere of the store captures everything I love in a wardrobe.
5 Words to Describe Personal Style: If I could choose five words to describe my personal style they’d be: classic, lovely, authentic, minimal accessories.
Books You’re Reading for Pleasure: Books I’m currently reading for pleasure? Okay, I know it sounds odd, but I love Thomas Moore’s Utopia. Also, I always have a copy of Julianne Donaldson’s Edenbrooke with me. Yes, I packed it in my suitcase to bring to college, and yes I brought it with me each time I went back home for breaks. It’s one of those pleasant books you can read that is simple, romantic, and calmly sweeps you away into another world.
Favorite TV Shows: As far as TV or Netflix, I rarely watch anything. I’m more of a “sit down for a good old fashioned movie” type of girl.
Tea or Coffee: My goodness, you’re asking me if I like coffee or tea more? That is painfully cruel. I have always been a hot tea person–preferably Earl Grey, no sugar, and a bit of cream. But when I went to Italy a few summers ago, I fell in love with having cappuccinos in the afternoons. And I confess, now I’m really sold!
Cake or Cookies: Cookies over cake any day of the week, especially if there are walnuts or pecans in the cookies.

Tulips or Peonies: Peonies are my favorite flower, at least, at the current moment they are. And if I could open a flower shop tomorrow, I would. I suppose that’s me in a nutshell! I love people and conversations; I treasure friendships and gatherings. If you randomly said hello to me on the street, we’d probably end up having a wonderful time talking about everything under the sun. And it’d be really lovely!

Yay for Adriana joining the ADS team 🙂 Hope you’ve enjoyed getting to know her! You can follow her art here. And you can be sure to hear lots more about her in the next few months!

And last, but most certainly not least, here are my weekend links! I’ve been reading more blogs lately (in my spare time) and wanting to share some of my favorites with YOU!

1. If you’re stuck in the winter doldrums, consider having a Nordic Winter Party. I agree with Melissa…why do we cram all of winter’s fun & gathering in the first third of winter? Jan & Feb need some love, too!

2. I just rediscovered this brand, and I’m obsessed with their wide leg pants! What a beautiful shape, and oh-so-high-waisted!

3. Joanna isn’t buying new clothes for a year! Would you be able to do that? I’m already disqualified. 😉

4. I need one of these.

5. Megan shares on the beauty, pain, growth, slowness, and joys of motherhood. Beautiful and full of so many wonderful reminders.

6. I have been inspired by Lee’s absolutely perfect wardrobe and will be amping up my style game and sharing more of my personal style right here. I love her 10 x 10 style challenge, and might just start it right now. Either way, I’ll be sharing LOTS more style content soon!

7. I adore the Wild and Free homeschooling community, and this nature nook is spot on!

8. My friends Lori and Colleen recently launched wldwst, and they are so incredibly inspiring, especially their instagram. I want them to create a real life mood board for me.

9. I recently bought a pair of jeans and they’re perfect.

10. I am dying to have one (or all) of the things from this shop in The Netherlands. What’s your favorite (mind are this and this)?
