Since starting A Daily Something, I’ve been amazed by the community of like-minded creatives and the friendships I’ve been blessed to make. Working with talented people – photographers, gardeners, floral designers, videographers, bakers, etc – has been rewarding, challenging and just so fun! I’m also thankful for the opportunity to host gatherings with friends old and new – there’s nothing quite like coming together with friends, conversing for hours around food, amidst beautiful surroundings.
One such gathering I was blessed to be a part of recently: the Kinfolk Honey Harvest Workshop. What an honor to work with Kinfolk and host this event at Goodstone Inn in Middleburg, VA. The most rewarding part of hosting this workshop was the fact that everyone came as strangers and left as friends. Sharing a meal and learning a hands-on skill, together, simply opens the avenues of conversation and friendship. I am looking forward to hosting another workshop in September!
I could not have hosted this gathering without the generosity of our partners! So many artists were willing to contribute; thank you!
Our lovely letterpressed honey harvest print was designed by Claudia at Fig 2 Design. We included this lovely quote: “Bees do have a smell, you know, and if they don’t they should, for their feet are dusted with spices from a million flowers.” – Ray Bradbury, Dandelion Wine
The herb arrangements were put together by Rachel at Sweet Root Village. My favorites are the pitchers overflowing with mountain mint (I’d love some fresh in my home, every day!) and the tureen of lambs ear. All the herbs came fresh from LynnVale Farm in Gainesville. Herbs are a wonderfully uncomplicated way to add thoughtfulness to a dinner table.
Celina Mancurti sent linen tea towels for one person to take home; Lauren was our lucky winner, but I secretly wanted to keep them for myself! Celina is an Argentinian textile designer who designs and prints these handcrafted linens herself. I love the simplicity of her products.
A talented local baker, Melinda Friend, baked over 20 loaves of bread to pair with our honey, including sourdough, date and fig, multi-grain, and a delicious, crispy white bread! She delivered the warm bread to us the morning of the workshop…what a treat!
It was wonderful learning from beekeepers Meredith,
John, and James (a guest who has an incredible knowledge of bees and
hives of his own)! I so appreciate when friends are willing to share
their talents and knowledge. There is so much to learn about bees and honey; I am constantly amazed that these little creatures actually produce honey (and the process is just fascinating)!
Thanks to everyone for coming out for the workshop. I can’t wait to see you all again!
