experimenting with film | celebrate the details

A few weeks ago, we celebrated my friend Robert’s 50th birthday. His wife (and one of my best friends!), Wendy, hosted a gorgeous, natural gathering in their home. A carefully crafted menu, soft linens, simple white dishes, music made by friends, and lots of smiling faces.
I documented the evening with an old Minolta XG 1 (same camera I used at the BkC printing class). Here are a few of my favorite table details.

I actually used two rolls of film, but only one turned out. I must have loaded the film incorrectly, or something. That’s the beauty/frustration of using film (at least for an amateur like myself). It also makes me appreciate these photos even more!

Hope you’re having a blessed Monday, friends!
Rebecca

  3. ooh so pretty, rebecca!! film is something i haven't experimented with much, but your photos make me want to try it out. beautiful! 🙂

    • Rebecca says:

You should Amy – it's so fun. My fave part is waiting for the film to be developed, and remembering little details here and there of what I shot but not knowing exactly how they will all turn out! 🙂

  4. Kyla says:

I love these! There's definitely something magical about film that you just can't get with digital photos.

  5. Love the grainy feel to these!

These look great! Love the soft, glowy quality – beautiful!

  9. Awesome! I'm kinda wondering how you took the first picture. You must be one of those special moms with three hands 🙂

    • Rebecca says:

lolololz, Elaine. Definitely don't have 3 hands. Wish you could have seen me taking this photo…standing on a chair behind my friend Susanna, waiting for the perfect moment as she sipped on her cup if tea… 😉

  10. I agree with other commenters that these photos look so warm and inviting. I'd never have patience for film (I didn't even back when digital wasn't around), so kudos to you for going old school.

  11. Jaclyn says:
