a cooking class | curry in a hurry cuisine (and a giveaway – closed)

This past weekend, Daniel Soares welcomed Joe and I into his home for his famous Indian cooking class – Curry in A Hurry Cuisine. The class was wonderful; we learned about Indian foods, where to shop for the best ingredients, were taught a few cooking tricks, enjoyed great company (our classmates were a blast), and then sat down for a lovely shared table experience with our new (and some old) friends!

The class was comprised of 4 girls and 4 guys, so we broke into teams and had a little friendly competition. The girls totally creamed the guys, hands down. Sorry, we just know how to chop, mix with our hands, dollop, simmer, etc.

The menu included Bhajjias (onion fritters) appetizers (with a cup of hot ginger chai), and Goan Fish Curry with Alu Palak (potatoes and spinach). We had scrumptious Lassi to drink with our dinner. It was one of the most delicious dinners I’ve ever had.

What I loved most about Curry in A Hurry Cuisine is that Joe and I didn’t know half the people taking the class, but we left feeling like old friends. Mr. Soares teaches in such a way that the students are very involved and there’s lots of team work. Working together in the kitchen, assigning tasks to each other, making mistakes together, learning about a different culture, racing to see who can mix their batter the fastest…this all helps to break down barriers and forge friendships. We talked about everything and anything, and it was incredible. And then we got to enjoy the fruits of our labor at the long dining room table.

I enjoyed this class so much, that Curry in A Hurry Cuisine has partnered with A Daily Something to offer a giveaway to my PATRICK HENRY COLLEGE STUDENT AND ALUMNI readers! FYI guys, the class makes a wonderful (and extremely affordable) date night! The giveaway is open through PHC Homecoming, so hopefully we’ll get tons of entries!
