A Daily Gathering | Recap of The Perfect Cup: A Coffee Workshop

The first A Daily Gathering workshop of the year has come and gone (and now we’re prepping for the natural dyeing workshop on March 28)! I brought Naomi along with me; it was my first event post-baby WITH baby and WITHOUT Joe. I’m so blessed with sleepy and generally good-natured babies (and with friends who love holding babies). We actually had three babies at this workshop and I LOVED it!

For this coffee workshop, I partnered with Jrink Juicery (and a host of other wonderful VIRGINIA, MARYLAND, and DC-based brands), who hosted us at their gorgeous exposed brick juice bar in Dupont. I’m obsessed with Jrink’s space and cannot wait to dream up another event to hold there!

I’m so thankful for the creativity in the Virginia, Maryland and DC area! All our sponsors were “local”, within 2-3 hours of this area! My friend Chris – the head coffee man at Lo Co Joe in Purcellville – taught everyone how to make the perfect cup of Chemex coffee at home. It was so rewarding to see everyone produce perfect cups after a few attempts. I asked Emily if she’d bring some baked goods and she WOWed us all with her delicious selections! She made savory hand pies with goat cheese and hot pepper jelly (I think I ate 100 of these), cardamom donut muffins, and Mexican chocolate donut muffins.

All the students went home with gorgeous and delicious products from our sponsors… Not only did we use Three Ships Coffee for the workshop but Brad & Amy of this Virginia Beach-based coffee roastery gave bags of perfectly roasted Nicaraguan beans for everyone to take home! Julia Paul Pottery sent us these gorgeous cups. I want one of everything that Julie makes; her pottery is perfect! Amanda generously donated copies of Trouve Magazine. I cannot wait to see Volume 3! I’m rapidly becoming a chocolate snob after tasting Shark Mountain Coffee‘s chocolate. Jonny gave us an assortment of his chocolate for our students, and I didn’t really want to share with everyone. 😉 And one lucky lady got to take these reusable sandwich and snack bags home. They’re made here in DC and I LOVE everything Magpie Cookshop makes!

Cannot wait for next weekend’s The Art of Natural Dyeing workshop, taught by the twin sister duo behind Drift Lab Textile Co; we still have a new tickets available if you’re interested!
