Over the weekend, we took to girls out for a downtown adventure. I recently partnered with Janie and Jack, so we dressed them in their new outfits for a perfectly put together look, and hit the town! We walked, watched some live music, and the girls kept their eyes open for an ice cream shop! We found the perfect place, completely with garden area and bocci court. There was a line for the bocci (who knew it was so popular), but we did get to watch others play (and Naomi did grab one of the balls which completely ruined the very competitive adult game), explore a secret garden, and eat homemade ice cream. They were truss chic, head to two, in their sweet new outfits.

We love taking the girls out on summer evenings…for walks around town, nearby carnivals, kid-friendly concerts, the drive-in movies, ice cream dates, and anything else that seems like it might hold their attention! More frequently than not, by the time we get to our destination, everyone is tired and ready to eat, and then go home. The drive-in movie was hilarious. Zoe wanted to talk about the movie the entire time, and Naomi just didn’t care for the movie at all (except when she saw a dog on the screen, and then she wanted to say “doggie” very loudly). But it was a wonderful, warm summer evening, spent together as a family. We might wait a few years before going back to the drive-in. 😉

Somehow, we’ve been parents for over three years and these years have flown by. Ask anyone who knows me well and they will agree: I have a bad memory and have difficulty remembering things from last week. I really have a difficult time remembering things that weren’t documented by camera. Now that we have two little girls, I’m trying more and more to [discreetly] document life with photos, just so we all have more to build and shape our memories upon. Some of my only memories from my childhood are because we have photos which have kept the past alive!

As a mama to two little girls, I’m trying to not take any of these moments for granted. You never know when a favorite routine will no longer be your child’s favorite. Zoe’s grown out of our post-bathtime ritual of looking in the mirror together when she’s bundled in her towel, and I ask, “who’s mommy’s baby.” For months and months, she’s responded “ZoZo,” and would giggle and giggle. She now refuses to participate, and I can’t remember the last time she played along with my little game. It brings me to tears (actual tears) just thinking about it. Naomi just broke out in song for the first time today. She sang a real song that I’ve sung to her almost every day of her life, with almost perfect lyrics and tune. These moments are so fleeting and I want to bottle them all up and freeze them and experience them and have everything all at once.

For our special night out, Zoe wore my favorite shorts and top. I just love her little striped bow headband. I love Naomi in red, so this persimmon top was a no-brainer, and these white double button pants are just too cute on her pudgy legs. And that hat. Why are kids in hats so adorable?! What are some of your favorite pieces from Janie and Jack? Oh how I treasure these moments, and I’m thankful for the opportunity to partner with Janie and Jack to make these photos and memories extra special!

I absolutely love that first photograph – it’s perfection. These girls are so sweet. 🙂
