Our Weekend Getaway with Mason & Rook

Last weekend, we escaped to Washington, DC for a little anniversary / Christmas gift to ourselves! We had such a fun time exploring the city; we live SO close to DC but rarely ever go into the city together (and without the girls)! We stayed at Mason & Rook, a Kimpton Hotel, and enjoyed every second of our time. You know the hotel is doing something right when you feel at home in your room and really don’t want to leave. We were welcomed to our room with a bottle of wine and a cheese board…such a nice treat after walking around the freezing cold city all afternoon. I couldn’t stop snapping photos of our room and the decor. It was decorated so simply, yet so intentionally and thoughtfully. I loved the gold/amber/burnt orange touches throughout our room; they made we want to add something with that warmth in our own home.

After checking in and settling into our room, we headed downstairs for their nightly wine hour, where they were also serving seasonal chai teas (with optional bourbon). For breakfast the next day, we dined in our room and had a tasty spread from their restaurant Radiator. I never, ever eat breakfast in bed (and with my robe on!) so it all felt magical – even regal! Let’s talk about that robe! I need to find out where they source their robes, and buy one; it was so indulgent. Later in the morning, we escaped to explore 14th street (West Elm and Salt & Sundry are nearby) on the complimentary PUBLIC Kimpton bikes. I hadn’t rode on a bike for years, and it was a blast! We spent a bit of time in the lobby, enjoying the beautiful decor, paging through their impressive collection of books, and drinking coffee (and tea for Joe). We spent most of the day away from the hotel, as I had a work project to complete.

What I loved best about our stay at Mason & Rook was the spacious comfort of the guest rooms. Subtle plaid carpets, luxe textures and textiles, eclectic framed artwork that feels collected and gathered over a lifetime. And the marble bathroom, expansive glass shower stalls, and luxurious rain shower heads. New goal: replace our shower head.

We’re so incredibly grateful to Mason & Rook for providing this room for our stay and for creating such a welcoming environment!

  1. I ADORE Kimpton hotels! I haven’t stayed at Mason & Rook yet, but we just did The Donovan a couple of weeks ago!
