recipe | chocolate oatmeal almond smoothie
Monday, March 26, 2012
The title of this post says it all. This is a smoothie recipe with cocoa, oatmeal, almonds, and some other key ingredients. It's seriously healthy and the tastiest late night snack. Ever. (Also a tasty breakfast, mid-morning snack, lunch, second lunch, etc.)
Ingredients
- 3 tbsp raw oatmeal
- 1/4 cup almonds
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 cup raw milk (or half and half if you feel like splurging)
- 1 tbsp raw cocoa powder
- 2 frozen bananas
- 8 ice cubes
Directions
Put all ingredients in your blender. Blend thoroughly. We have a VitaMix and it's incredible - the ice is destroyed in approximately 15 seconds. Pour in a fun glass, insert straw. ENJOY!
We've made this smoothie (or a similar variation - some have had date pieces, some no milk products, some coconut oil!) the past few nights and everyone fights over seconds. Always a good sign.
Let me know if you try this out, or if you have your own favorite smoothie recipe.
till tomorrow,
Rebecca

Looks lovely! My favourite recipe i mango smoothie: just a mango, low fat milk and a squeeze of honey if I want something a bit sweeter!

That sounds amazing! YUM:)
ReplyDeleteGoing to try this! :) That mango smoothie that Ronnie makes sounds awesome, too. Now I have two to make!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds yummy! I wish I could incorporate grains into my diet without feeling icky afterward, but I'm totally passing this along!
ReplyDeleteummmmmmmm I'm on diet ;(

Yeah, pop in a straw and walk out the door. You could even put it in a sippy cup ;)
DeleteYum! This sounds so good - will have to try. Your photos and styling are beautiful too, Rebecca! :)
ReplyDeleteTHANKS, Amy! I debated whether or not to go with all this brightness and editing, but I LOVED the way it looked and had to go with it. ;)

ReplyDeletethis sounds {and looks} delicious! i always go for a soy milk with strawberries and bananas smoothie, its super yum
ReplyDeleteI just pre-made this so I can whip it up in the morning before work. thanks rebecca! i drink a smoothie for breakfast everyday and needed a new one to rotate out!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah - we LOVE these! Since I pick up eggs from a farm down the street, I usually add an egg or two to the shake. Add a little good fat and protein to the mix.
ReplyDeleteYum! This looks like a wonderfully healthy excuse to eat something undeniably sweet! I would do this with milk or yogurt ice cubes to keep it from getting watered down. Which reminds me, I need to get an ice cube tray! These will be great for keeping cool this summer :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks delicious. I will definitely be trying it soon. AND you use raw milk. I love you for that :).
ReplyDeleteYum yum yum! This sounds soooo tasty! Love the idea of oatmeal in a smoothie! Also, I'm so jealous of your Vitamix!! :)
ReplyDeletei'm *still* dreaming about making this even though you posted it a while ago :)
ReplyDeleteI finally made this smoothie this morning and it was HEAVENLY! I still can't get over how healthy it is. Thanks for the awesome recipe!
