diy | canvas drop cloth table runner
I mentioned on Twitter that I had a new obsession…canvas drop cloths! They’re available at almost any hardware store (and online) and they come in a variety of sizes and neutrals. The 9 x 12 canvas was about $20, and after a few projects, I’ve hardly made a dent. Definitely a great buy!
For last week’s Mother’s Day Brunch, I made several rustic canvas table runners. I ran them across the width of the table, and used them almost like placemats. They were the perfect addition of texture and really helped achieve the neutral layered look I was going for. Pictures coming soon!
Here are the steps to create these simple, no-sew table runners!
1 // Gather these supplies: scissors, tape measure, pencil, canvas drop cloth.
2 // Measure out the width and length of the runner. For width, I measured and cut mine at 16″ and then frayed about 1/4″ on each side, so the final width is about 15″. For length, this will depend on the length of your table and how much of an overhang you want.
3 // Cut along your lines.
4 // Fray the edges.
I told you it was simple! And, if you don’t want the rustic, frayed edges, you could easily use no-sew tape (I used that with the canvas for an upcoming DIY; it works well) to finish off the seams.

yay for canvas drop cloth! it does tend to keep on fraying if you pop it in the wash – but it isn't hard to re-fray. it also makes a great paintable surface if you (hot)glue it to wooden squares!
Ah, love the idea of gluing to wooden squares 🙂 To help against tons of fraying, I actually just hand washed them in the sink, which seemed to be super gentle and didn't cause more fraying!
These are lovely! I wish I could have a Mother's Day brunch with my mom and actually use these with her, but I'm sure she wouldn't mind if a little package of drop cloths arrived in the mail. 🙂
