thrifty entertaining | black pottery bowls

By now, you know that I almost exclusively shop for homegoods at thrift shops. Half the time, I feel badly sharing my thrifted purchases on A Daily Something, because I can’t link to a shop where you can find the exact item. But, that’s half the fun of thrifting – finding unexpected, one-of-a-kind treasures (at affordable prices)! And I really hope that my adventures in thrifting inspire you to go out and shop your local thrift shops with an open mind!

These black pottery bowls are my favorite serving dishes. Our day-to-day dinnerware is white which means they “go” with virtually anything, so I love adding different layers, textures, and colors to the table at each meal using thrifted linens, flatware, assorted glasses, and serving dishes. These pottery pieces sit on my open shelf in the kitchen, just waiting to be grabbed to serve salad, bread, pasta, chopped veggies, etc. They work for anything (and I especially love the contrast of green leaves in the black bowl). The largest bowl is vintage (made in 1960) and weighs about 50 lbs (and was the most expensive at $15…but compared to new prices AND the fact that it’s vintage, it was a steal!). The other two were $3 and $1.50.

Here’s where I found my black pottery treasures:
large: Re-Love It
medium: Leesburg Salvation Army
small: Purcellville Blue Ridge Hospice Thrift Shop

Happy thrifting, friends!

  1. Clicking on links to buy the exact same thing as someone else gets a little old. I love that your thrifting posts are more educational…they help me see the potential in things, and make me want to go out and find something just as unique. I love your thrifting posts!

I think sharing the thrifts is the best way, no one else will be sharing these at all will they. Great price as i've sure you'd pay triple in a regular store. Really nice looking, the biggest is quite a weight

  3. Faryn Bo says:

I wish my husband and I had the space in our tiny apartment to store more dinnerware! While thrifting, many a things catch my eye. I love how all of yours is placed, used, and pretty. The biggest bowl here, 50 lbs?! whoa!

  4. Kory says:

These are really gorgeous pieces! I love these types of ceramic bowls.
