On peonies, from Sweet Root Village (part II of our June Peony posts):
I’ve always loved the fluffy goodness of peonies, the signature of the
beginning of summer. I envy those with yards full of overloaded bushes,
taunting me with stems weighed down by they enormous blooms. Choosing
colors from our local farmers is too difficult, so I usually go
overboard and get them all. It’s impossible not to feel inspired when
designing with peonies, especially when paired with other local greens
and flowy loveliness. Just grab anything from your home and poke a few
blooms amongst the foliage and you’ll have a gorgeous full arrangement
to gaze upon all week.
The more I learn about flowers, picking a favorite becomes increasingly difficult. But peonies are always a contender for #1, with their strong stems, giant blooms, intricate petals, vintage feel, and 100s of varieties. Paired with some flowing greens, they just might be my favorite. I am drawn to the wild, unconstrained nature of this arrangement. And that stunning pink!
Scenes like this transport me to Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice,
wishing I could sit at this cheerful desk everyday to correspond with my
faraway friends. Or take a stroll around the room, chatting with my
dear sister about the nature of love, or the upcoming ball, or life in London. Oh, to live simply!
Hope these gorgeous images encourage you to take a minute out of your day to appreciate the little things: send a handwritten note, sit down with a cup of tea to read a few pages in your favorite novel, or wander outside to pick a few fresh blooms and place them in your favorite container.
Happy Tuesday, friends!
P.S. I’m still pregnant! My midwives did a little procedure yesterday evening (I’ll spare you the details), but nothing seems to be happening. Planning on the castor oil + homeopathic tincture route later today or early tomorrow morning. Praying our baby girl joins us today!

So beautiful! Peonies have grown to be my favorite flower. I love how they change in size and color throughout their time in the vase.
