Thoughts on Rebranding/Redesigning

I’ve been trying to collect images and tear sheets from all my past work, in an attempt to get super organized for the big website/blog/portfolio overhaul I’m dreaming of. I think it actually might happen this year, and I’m really stoked about it! I’ve been dragging my feet for so many reasons, but mainly because it’s so overwhelming and requires me to make important decisions about my brand and such. But it’s time. I’m quite embarrassed of my outdated portfolio and almost want to hide the link (don’t go snooping now)…but it’s all part of the process of who I am today and how my style has evolved, so I guess I’ll keep it up for now.

Can’t wait to get these images – and so many others – added to my portfolio. These are from a project I worked on with Kate Headley from almost a year ago! My friend Melinda teaches artisan bread making classes at her home studio in Leesburg, VA (Knead & Know) and ever since first attending a croissant class several months earlier, I’d been very eager to style in her beautiful, light-filled studio. I was excited to have the opportunity to work with Kate; she’s a genius behind the camera and super fun to work with (we’ve worked together for West Elm and Edible DC). I invited my friend Carlene and her husband Chris, who happen to live around the corner from Melinda, to be our students for the day. Chris and Carlene ended up pitching in and helping with pretty much everything, and Carlene styled the lovely cheese board! It was a really fun shoot to work on, and of course, we feasted on bread (and cheese and meat and wine). Shoots involving food are the best kind!

Apparently, the first step in this website/blog/portfolio updating project is to compile a list of all the sites/designs/styles I like…I don’t regularly read the long list of blogs I used to read, mostly because I just don’t have the time. Scrolling through instagram is so much easier/quicker. That said, I don’t even know where to start! What are some of your favorite blog/website designs? Or, who has a really good design board on pinterest? Give me alllll your secrets and ideas and advice for this scary redesign / rebrand process.

I don't have any secrets or advice, but I do know that whatever redesign you come up with will be lovely! The hardest part of something is always the beginning, but I am so excited to see what you come up with. You have such a great sense for taking away what's unnecessary and leaving only what's beautiful behind – I've seen you in action! Best of luck as you begin to dream!

I can't wait to see what you do with your rebrand. I've been toying with the idea lately too but it's such a daunting process. I definitely love mimithorisson.com and Local Milk too for a little foodie inspiration. Best of luck!

Hi, long time reader, first time commenter here. I recently rebuilt my website(lisashenphotography.com) using squarespace. I am pretty happy with it. Can't wait to see your rebranding!

  5. Good luck wit the redesign, Rebecca! It can be super a fun creative process…I hope you enjoy it. We're in the middle of developing my new site and brand and I can't wait until it's finished. Starting fresh is such a great feeling!
